Richard graduated from Mission High School, attended UT-Pan American then completed his Pharmacy degree at the University of Texas at Austin in 1972. In 1993, Richard opened the first Richard’s Pharmacy to service the prescriptions needs for the Mission community. Five years later, he opened a second location with the help of his longtime friend and partner, Ramiro H. Barrera. Throughout his career, he received several honorary awards including “National Pharmacist of the Year 2000” from Bergen Brunswick Wholesale Company and “Mr. Mission 2011,” an award presented by the Progress Times on behalf of the citizens of Mission for continued superior service. He has served on various boards and organizations including Mission C.I. S. D. Board of Trustees, Mission Economic Development Corporation Board, Greater Mission Chamber of Commerce Board and Mission Regional Medical Center Board.
